See How to Protect Your Teeth With a Mouthguard
Teeth grinding is a big problem and usually, we see patients that are in their 50s, 60s, 70s that have worn away multiple millimeters of their enamel of their tooth and now they need extensive dental restorations to fix the problem. If we’re able to determine early in their life that they’re a grinder through seeing chips or wear facades on their teeth and recommend an occlusal guard or mouth guard that they wear at night, then they’re simply wearing the plastic and they’re not wearing their teeth.
The great thing about wearing an occlusal guard and just to grinding through the plastic and not grinding the tooth is that in a couple of years, maybe 3, 5, 7, 10 years, when the plastic needs to be replaced, it’s another easy visit and it’s a cheap visit. It’s saving the patient from being sitting in the chair and spending a lot of money on dental work, which we know is not always fun or enjoyable.
