Find Out How Bone Grafts Prepares Your Mouth for Implants
So basically, a sinus lift and ridge augmentation, usually that happens when you have a sinus that’s enlarged or when you don’t have enough bone in your posterior in the back of your upper arch. So basically, your sinuses sit here and here. Some people have larger sinuses than others. It just happens. So when we remove your molars for example, back teeth in the back, on the back of your arch, we don’t have enough bone thickness to put an implant in successfully, because your sinus is just enlarged. We have a big sinus, large sinus, which is totally normal. What we do, we do a what you could call a sinus lift or a sinus augmentation. What we do basically, we go in, we lift up your sinus a little bit, raise it up, and we pack it with bone. We move it up and pack bone, bone, bone to gain thickness in the back of your upper jawbone. Okay, and after that, we can put the implant in the same day, and after you heal, as we explained earlier, we put the tooth on top of the implant. So that’s the importance of ridge augmentation. Some people don’t need that, that’s fine. Like ridge augmentation, some people have small sinuses, great. We just put a tooth in, you don’t have to wait.
